NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An opportunity has arisen for a band 6 specialist Dietitian to join a dynamic and friendly team. The Learning Disability Nutrition and Dietetic Service within Tayside are seeking to recruit an individual with excellent communication and inter-personal skills. The post is part of a small team of Dietitians and a Health Improvement Practitioner based in Dundee, covering Tayside.

This new post will be to enhance and further develop the service to adults with a Learning Disability. It offers an excellent opportunity to deliver a wide range of community based nutritional care with an emphasis on nutrition support, weight management and enteral feeding in community settings including, patient (service user) homes, supported living accommodation, residential care, with some potential hospital work too. We are committed to the training of dietetic students, carers, families and other healthcare professionals. Excellent team working and communication skills are therefore essential in this role, as is the ability to work independently.  You must be willing to travel throughout Tayside and a car driving license is essential.

The post allows for extensive peer support and opportunities to work with our dietetic colleagues across Tayside. You will continue to promote evidence based practice within the team and be encouraged to participate in the creation and influence the content of a variety of new projects. As a team, we embrace the use of technology, including the use of electronic patient notes to further enhance patient care and communication between involved professionals across the wider Learning Disability team. We actively support continuous professional development and there is also potential to undertake future responsibility for the supervision of dietetic support workers and/or a band 5 rotational Dietitian.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with other health and social care colleagues, taking a pro-active approach to the clinical care of patients, service improvement and pathway development. This post would ideally suit a band 6 Dietitian or a band 5 with experience who is ready to progress in a community setting and seeking to broaden their clinical experience. It would be desirable for you to have experience of working with people with a Learning Disability and their carers but this is not essential and applicants with appropriate transferrable skills will be considered.

You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Hours of work are: 22.5 per week
