About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. Public Health Scotland wants to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, a Scotland where life expectancy improves and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.
The Post:
- Response: lead the development of the PHS response to the Covid Inquiries, including UK Covid Inquiry; Scottish Covid Inquiry; and Police Scotland inquiries
- Relationships: managing effective relations with PHS stakeholders in relation to the Inquiries, including Central Legal Office, UK and Scottish Public Inquiry Teams, Scottish Government and other Inquiry participants
- Communications: to establish and strategically lead communications with all parts of PHS on progress and on requirements arising from the Inquiries.
- Governance: responsible for developing and implementing effective governance of PHS involvement with the Inquiries, in line with the PHS strategy.
You will be joining a senior team, working to effect change to improve outcomes for people in communities and to develop and enable a Public Health Scotland culture with a focus on impact and solutions.
The Candidate:
You will be a very experienced manager who has already worked at a senior level within a large, complex organisation. You will have a track record of working with a variety of stakeholders to deliver and embed change across organisational boundaries with in-depth knowledge in the areas of scrutiny and governance.
The post-holder will be expected to use professional judgement and leadership to take decisive action and drive decisions within the programme with a high level of autonomy.
You will lead in designing information and content management protocols and develop Knowledge Services processes and work. Furthermore, you will quality assure evidence requirements and submission in response to Public Inquiry requests.
The post holder will report directly to the Chief Officer.
Location and Working Pattern:
The post is based in either Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Central Quay, Glasgow.
Please note that PHS is currently in the process of relocating from Central Quay, Glasgow to Bothwell Street, Glasgow from early 2024.
Applicants on any working pattern, between Monday to Friday, are welcome to apply for this post though it will be important that the candidate is able to attend key meetings and Committees.
During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
