Lead Clinician – Scottish Bowel Screening Programme

This post is a 3 Year Fixed Term / Secondment position

2 Programmed Activities (PA) per week

About the Organisation:

National Services Scotland (NSS) is a national NHS Board operating right at the heart of NHSScotland providing invaluable support and advice at a strategic and operational level.  NSS supports customers to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively and we offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our priority is always the same – to improve the health and well-being of the people of Scotland. We do this by working in partnership with colleagues across Health and Social Care to deliver fit for purpose solutions and systems, delivering high quality services that help our stakeholders to free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services.

The Post:

In line with Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates guidance, National Services Division (NSD) is seeking to appoint a Clinician to provide national leadership and clinical guidance to ensure that the Scottish Bowel Screening Programme continues to develop and to remain in a position to respond to changes in the screening environment.

The Lead Clinician will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who will lead the continuing development of the Programme taking account of new standards and guidance available nationally and internationally.  Applicants will be senior clinical leaders in their field and have knowledge and experience in the provision and development of cancer screening services.  They will have a proven record in leading change, extensive knowledge of the screening pathway and will play an integral part in supporting the governance and quality assurance of the Programme.  The ability to work across traditional NHS Board boundaries and organisations is essential.  It is likely that the successful candidate will be from a medical background.

The Candidate:

The appointment is for 2 sessions/PAs per month for a term of 3 years in the first instance with an option to extend beyond that if required.

Applicants must have a current substantive role as an NHS Scotland employee and have the support of their Clinical Director for this post to be incorporated into their job plan.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of an innovative team to support the strategic delivery of improvements across the bowel screening service and pathways.

Location: Dependent on location of main employment.

Currently hybrid working.
