NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service
Royal Edinburgh Hospital
Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Primary Care
The Primary Care and COVID Antiviral teams in NHS Lothian are recruiting two pharmacists seeking a fresh challenge, with a mix of patient interaction and service development. Applicants should be excellent communicators with exceptional interpersonal and clinical decision-making skills. This role is suitable for pharmacists keen to move to primary care or those looking to continue their development as a primary care pharmacist.
The Role
The COVID Antiviral Service (based at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital) is responsible for undertaking patient assessments, prescribing and organising supply of COVID treatments for non-hospitalised high-risk patients in NHS Lothian. You will undertake consultations remotely, with clinical support from pharmacy colleagues and specialist services. Successful applicants will work closely with the Lead Pharmacist for the COVID Antiviral Service and Lead Health and Social Care Partnership Pharmacists to develop and refine the provision of antiviral therapies within NHS Lothian.
Successful candidates will split their time between the COVID Antiviral Service and in general practice. You will be an integral part of the GP practice multi-disciplinary team, providing support to improve patient outcomes by ensuring the safety and appropriateness of medicines. Post-holders will deliver all levels of Pharmacotherapy (as per the 2018 Scottish General Medical Services contract), with daily tasks including: medicines reconciliation, polypharmacy reviews, authorising prescription requests, monitoring high-risk medicines and resolving high-risk medicine problems. If the provision of the COVID Antiviral Service changes significantly in future, the post-holder will work wholly in general practice.
Personal Development
Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and should have completed or have equivalent competence, as mapped to the RPS Post-Registration Foundation Pharmacist Framework available at: https://www.rpharms.com/development/credentialing/post-registration-foundation/post-registration-foundation-curriculum
NHS Lothian is committed to ongoing development, therefore you will be given protected time and support to complete relevant training courses and professional frameworks. Applicants should be qualified independent prescribers or be prepared to undertake this qualification on appointment.
Applications for part-time or full-time work will be considered. Please note, you may be required to work weekends or public holidays on a rota.
