Job Advert

We are now seeking to appoint, on a permanent basis, 2 Consultants in Geriatric Medicine, both with expertise in Frailty and one with additional experience in Orthogeriatrics. These posts are offered on a job-share basis, with a shared group of general Geriatric inpatient assessment beds. The unique nature of these posts will allow colleagues to work on a less-than-full-time (LTFT) basis in the confidence that acute inpatients are cross covered robustly.

Both posts are based within a specialist Older People and Stroke Unit at the Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH) Greenock. IRH provides a full range of District General Hospital Specialties with excellent support facilities. We also have a major commitment to education and close links with Glasgow University and there is an active undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programme.

We are seeking highly motivated, innovative, experienced and enthusiastic consultants to join a well-established and friendly Older People and Stroke Service, providing acute assessment and rehabilitation across the Inverclyde area which comprises both urban and rural populations. These posts provide an exciting opportunity to deliver and develop Older Peoples Services within an expert multi-disciplinary team.

Within these roles you will be one of a team of Consultants supported by a dedicated team of specialist nursing and Allied Health Professional (AHP) staff who are committed to improving the patient pathway to promote and deliver high standards of patient care, outcomes, experience, safety and quality. Your application and interview will demonstrate the skill set needed to join us in delivering, developing and teaching expert care within this exciting and challenging specialty.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience in all aspects of geriatric medicine including additional evidence of Frailty expertise and, if applying for the Orthogeriatric role, in this area also.

These posts have no mandatory on call or out hours of work.

There is flexibility in the job plans although the days of work will need to support the job share model. Details will be agreed between the successful applicants and the Clinical Director.  The posts are offered on an initial 6PA basis, made up of 5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) PAs and 1 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). Additional sessions may be available depending on individual interests and can be discussed with the Clinical Director after appointment or at annual job planning.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once CESR is awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
