About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland was launched as the new public health body for Scotland on 1 April 2020, with an ambitious vision of a 'Scotland where everybody thrives'.
Scotland faces significant health and wellbeing challenges:
- Covid -19
- Health inequalities
- Stall in life expectancy
- Drug related deaths
Public Health Scotland will continue to support and deliver better health outcomes: better data means better lives. We will be an authoritative source of Scottish national healthcare statistics. As an experienced healthcare, and more recently social care, partner; Public Health Scotland is uniquely positioned to provide support in information design, development and application to enhance decisions about healthcare and ultimately improve Scotland’s health.
Focusing on prevention and early intervention, we aim to increase healthy life expectancy and reduce premature mortality by responding to the wider determinants that impact on people’s health and wellbeing. To do this, we use data, intelligence and a place-based approach to lead and deliver Scotland’s public health priorities.
We are jointly sponsored by COSLA and the Scottish Government and collaborate across the public and third sectors. We provide advice and support to local government and authorities in a professionally independent manner.
Our values of respect, collaboration, innovation, excellence and integrity is at the heart of our work.
