The Role

NHS Lanarkshire is the third largest NHS Board in Scotland, providing health services across Lanarkshire to a population of 652,000 with a baseline recurring revenue allocation of c.£1.8bn. There are currently c15,400 staff employed.  We work closely in partnership with two local Councils (North and South Lanarkshire) and Integration Joint Boards to deliver improved health and social care for our local communities.

We are looking for a highly motivated, professional and enthusiastic individual to lead our financial planning and management within NHS Lanarkshire. The Director of Finance is an Executive Director of the Board and is the chief source of financial leadership and advice to the Board. You will have a key role to play in working with senior leadership teams, commercial partners, local authorities and Integration Joint Boards in pursuit of effective financial planning, procurement, contract management, capital planning and corporate governance. You will also play an important role in forging partnerships with, and influencing, local agencies to ensure widest possible engagement and collaboration in the Boards longer term financial planning.

The role is suited to an ambitious and experienced finance professional, ideally with Board level experience in a complex public sector system. You will be a resilient and inspirational leader with integrity at your core and be able to create a clear sense of purpose and be inclusive of stakeholders. This post presents an exciting opportunity to influence and shape the provision of health services in Lanarkshire within an integrated landscape working with Integration Joint Board colleagues and other partners. You will have the ability to influence thinking locally, regionally and nationally. To take on this challenge, you must have a proven track record of strategic and operational financial management, a commitment to working collaboratively with our stakeholders and with the Executive Leadership team to continue to develop our services for the population of Lanarkshire and beyond. The role of Director of Finance will be pivotal in leading the NHS Lanarkshire vision to support our healthcare strategy ‘Our Health Together’.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Qualified Accountant with full membership of one of the bodies recognised by the Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies (CCAB) or equivalent
  • Significant post qualifying experience with evidence of delivery of financial targets

It would be great if you also have

  • Additional post-graduate qualifications
  • Able to demonstrate significant experience of operating in a senior finance management capacity within the NHS in Scotland
  • Experience of working with Board Level Executive and Non- Executive Directors from a range of backgrounds
  • Strategic commercial contract management and negotiation skills and experience
