An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our dynamic team within the Acute Surgical Receiving Unit.  The successful candidate will work predominantly between the Surgical Ambulatory Care (SAC) and Surgical Receiving Team of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary however this post will also involve working across the General Surgical department and Surgical High Dependency unit.  

This Band 6 post may be filled with an existing trainee ANP or with a suitably experienced nurse wishing to undertake a training post who has been working at a band 6 level in an acute surgical or high dependency/critical care environment.  The successful candidate must complete an academic training programme and portfolio, whereupon completion of the academic programme and portfolio the successful candidate will be promoted to a Band 7.   Applicants for the ANP training post must have a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience and be highly committed and motivated to achieve an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice qualification.  It is also essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC.  The successful candidate will work alongside a team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Associates and provide support to senior medical staff to ensure continuity and efficiency in service delivery.

Due to the busy environment of the unit the ability to remain calm under pressure is a priority as well as possessing excellent communication and organisational skills.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate high standards of clinical care, have excellent interpersonal skills and be forward thinking.  You must have the ability to work as part of a team and be comfortable working autonomously within your scope of practice.  Advanced clinical skills progression will be expected to be undertaken as part of the role and additional training and support will be provided in areas such as incision and drainage of abscesses, arterial blood gases etc.

Shift pattern for this post will be over 5 days, predominantly Monday to Friday with occasional weekend working.
