An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Nairn and Badenoch & Strathspey Community Mental Health Team for a Fixed Term of 12 months (Maternity Leave Cover). This post will be based in Nairn Town and County Hospital.

The team provide a specialist older adult nursing service to people with both functional and organic illness in the community and care home environment. You will practice within agreed clinical pathways, promote self management and recovery and minimise relapse. You will also provide training, advice and direction to promote good practice in dementia care and to care for stressed and distressed behaviour.

The post holder will liaise with a range of Statutory, Independent and Third Sector agencies regarding the care of their patients. Contacts will take place in patients homes, care homes and a range of other health and social care settings. You will have the ability to work independently, manage your own caseload and provide teaching, supervision and assessment for student nurses. You will also assist with the supervision of any junior staff and also deputise for the Band 7 with the overall running of the team.

The successful candidate will be a RMN with a current valid registration with the NMC. Three years Band 5/6 post registration experience with Older Adults and community experience is preferred, however, consideration will be given to candidates who are able to demonstrate they have the transferrable skills and experience to work at this level in a community setting as evidenced through professional development.

In addition, a positive attitude, excellent communication and leadership skills and the ability to work autonomously and flexibly as part of a team is essential.

For this position a driving licence and access to a car is essential.
