 The Role

Three exciting opportunities have arisen within the Health Improvement Department of NHS Lanarkshire. We are looking to recruit to the following positions;

1. Health Improvement Senior: to lead, co-ordinate and support programmes of work within Scotland’s Public Health Priority 4. The post holder will have a responsibility for a portfolio of health improvement programmes in Tobacco Control, Alcohol & Other Substances Team with the overall aim of improving health and reducing health inequalities in line with local and national identified health priorities around prevention, early intervention and education in tobacco, alcohol and other substances. The post holder is required to provide health improvement support and advice to colleagues and partners, providing programme management and where appropriate, staff management.

2. Health Improvement Senior: will have responsibility for a portfolio of health improvement programmes across 2 localities (Cambuslang/Rutherglen and East Kilbride/Strathaven), with the overall aim of improving health and reducing health inequalities in line with local and nationally identified health priorities. The post holder has responsibility for the development and delivery of this portfolio of work under the direction of the Locality Health Improvement Team Leader. The post holder is required to provide health improvement support and advice to colleagues and partners, providing programme management and where appropriate, staff management.

What we'll need you to bring

  • The post holder must be qualified to degree standard
  • Post holder should have or be working towards a postgraduate qualification or have the equivalent knowledge and experience that demonstrates an understanding of health improvement /public health at postgraduate level
  • Experience of partnership working and negotiation skills
  • Proven track record in the delivery of Health Improvement/Public Health projects
  • Full UK/EU/EEA driving licence with access to a car is essential to the role

Contract type 

1. Full time (37.5hrs) Fixed Term or Secondment until 31st March 2025 

2. Part Time (15hrs) Permanent

Please note: Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post. 

Please note:  for part time posts the salary will be pro-rata.

1. Health Improvement Senior (PHP4)-  NHS Lanarkshire, 14 Beckford St, Hamilton ML3 0TA. This post has a pan-Lanarkshire remit.

2. Health Improvement Senior (South West Locality Team) - NHS Lanarkshire, Rutherglen Primary Care Centre, 130 Stonelaw Road, Rutherglen, G73 2PQ.

Health Improvement Department work a hybrid model, between home and base. The post holder may also be required to work at other bases and venues.
