Job Advert

About the Organisation:

National Services Scotland (NSS) is a national NHS Board operating right at the heart of NHS Scotland providing invaluable support and advice at a strategic and operational level.  NSS supports customers to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively and we offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our priority is always the same – to improve the health and well-being of the people of Scotland. We do this by working in partnership with colleagues across Health and Social Care to deliver fit for purpose solutions and systems, delivering high quality services that help our stakeholders to free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services.

The Post/Candidate:

As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services.  Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.

We are looking for a donor carer driver to join our existing team of staff who provide a high standard of care to our donors. You should be friendly, enjoy meeting people and be willing to work as part of a team. In addition to providing a high standard of care to our donors, perform Venepuncture, monitor donors and have basic IT skills. The role will include transporting equipment to session and staff as required. Although based in Inverness you must have a sound knowledge of the geography of the region as extensive travel throughout the region is required.

You must be flexible, and willing to work variable hours. Hours will include Sundays, regular long days and late evenings.

Applicants should note that Driving a HGV is an only part of the role, the majority of weekly hours is made up by performing donor carer duties (assisting donor’s and performing collection duties).

A ‘C’ licence (for a goods vehicle in excess of 7.5 tonnes) with current and valid CPC is required. Applicants must also have recent experience of driving said class of vehicle. Evidence of this will be required at interview.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Location and Working Pattern:

Inverness & North Scotland Blood Donor Centre

The work pattern is Monday to Sunday, 21 hours per week (variable hours)

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
