Are you looking for the rewards of living in an island community and have skills and experience to deliver health and social care service?

Orkney’s Health and Social Care Partnership and NHS Orkney are seeking to recruit a Head of Primary Care Services with a level of experience to effectively lead and develop complex change and improvement programmes with a range of staff, staff organisations and independent contractors.

The Integration Joint Board has been delivering services across the islands using innovative approaches supported by the integration agenda in a remote and rural setting. The Partnership want to build on their values-based reputation of working closely with people who use services, their Carers, communities, and partners in other sectors, and to develop services that are sustainable and fit for the future for Orkney.

To do this we are looking for someone with experience in commissioning Primary Care Services and contract management and who will lead and manage staff to deliver high quality services. The post holder will play a lead role in communicating openly with Primary Care contractor colleagues, to promote clinical involvement in the delivery and management of services and represent Primary Care Services collective opinions to the Orkney Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Orkney and outside agencies. Work is progressing to develop a Service Manager (Primary Care) post which will support the post holder.

The post holder will have a proven track record of effective financial planning, management and delivery of targets. They will be confident of delivering safe and effective services, within limited resource availability, in the context of rural island provision where some in-patient facilities are provided on the mainland of Scotland through partner boards.

You will deputise for the Chief Officer as required and will contribute to, and participate in, the leadership, management and governance of the Orkney Health and Social Care Partnership and NHS Orkney

Lying off the northern coast of Scotland, between John O’Groats and the Shetland Isles, Orkney is an archipelago of over 70 beautiful islands, 17 of which are inhabited. The total population is approximately 22,000 with most people living on the Mainland. The excellent ferry and air connections make travel to the Scottish mainland relatively easy.

There is a rich archaeological history to be explored, as well as many outdoor pursuits, including diving in Scapa Flow, kayaking, walking, cycling, bird watching, and many more. Orcadian culture is rich, with music and arts and crafts well represented.

Rise to the challenge and enjoy the opportunity – Orkney is a wonderful place to live and work and offers low pollution, low crime, excellent schools, good leisure facilities, unique wildlife and amazing scenery.
