The Role

The purpose of Public Health is to improve health and social wellbeing through taking a population wide perspective for Public Health improvement, focusing on tackling inequalities. This is achieved through the responsibility of working with individuals/families/groups/partner agencies to identify health needs, raise awareness of health and social wellbeing and through enabling/empowering people to improve their own health.

Within the Health Visiting function of this role the post holder will be accountable for a caseload, a clinical expert, provide Public Health expertise, and be a key member of the integrated Primary Care team and other multi-disciplinary groups as required.

The team leader role within this post encompasses leadership and management of the practice attached/aligned community nursing team and other nursing staff groups, where applicable, linking into the management structure of the locality.

To provide effective leadership, professional and operational management, expert clinical and professional supervision and support for Health Visitor/ Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) and staff within the HV team,  for ex, caseload management, child protection support/advice and management, professional practice, child development, maternal health, infant feeding and infant mental health. 

As a Registered Health Visitor/SCPHN required to be accountable for the effective and efficient professional and operational management of the implementation and delivery of the full Universal Pathway by Health Visitors/Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN).

What we'll need you to bring

  • Registered Nurse with demonstrable post registration experience
  • Registered Health Visitor/ Specialist Practitioner Qualification in Public Health Nursing
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level
  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge / CPD in relation to Public Protection, trauma informed practice eg Adverse Childhood Events (ACES)  
  • Highly developed specialist and expert knowledge of health visiting practise and complex child protection risk assessment underpinned by theory and experience.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge, understanding and interpretation of child protection guidance, policies and national legislation to protect children and staff.
  • Specialist knowledge and application of QI methodology, relating to staff supervision supporting in the development of QI and training e.g. orthoptic/financial inclusion/psychologically informed environments. 
  • The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
  • Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management skills

  • Demonstration of ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of health inequalities.
