The Post:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as our Executive Medical Director. You will lead and drive the development and delivery of a range of services which support the aim of NSS to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland through providing solutions to deliver and support public services. This will require strong professional leadership along with excellent influencing and persuasion skills to engage with our key stakeholders and maximise the potential of the services we deliver.
In addition, this post also involves leading and driving continuous improvement in clinical quality, value and compliance across National Services Scotland. This will be achieved by effective clinical professional governance, working in partnership with colleague Directors, having robust regulatory compliance and ensuring that all these measures are designed specifically to enable a high performing, agile and responsive organisation.
The Executive Medical Director is the most senior medical post-holder within NSS and is responsible for professional aspects of the contribution of the medical, dental, pharmaceutical, healthcare science and ophthalmic functions ensuring integrated, effective and efficient clinical support to the operations of the organisation.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Executive Medical Director will be a full member of the NSS Board and the Executive Management Team. As a member of the Executive Management Team, you will shape and implement the strategic direction of NSS and will lead the Clinical Directorate team.
The Candidate:
You should be educated to Masters level in a relevant subject, or equivalent demonstrable experience. You should also have evidence of continuing professional / personal development, including management and leadership development.
In addition, you should be able to evidence a significant understanding of the wider strategic planning and workforce agendas across health and care in Scotland, with evidence of managing and delivering across a portfolio of challenging and high-profile services.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Candidates must have current GMC registration at the time of applying.
Location and Working Pattern:
Flexible Location – Hybrid working practices in place. Some travel to our offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow may be required.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
