Job Advert

NHS Highland is seeking Forensic Examination Nurses.  This is a new team essential to the ongoing development of the Forensic Medical Examiner Service.  The post holders will provide clinical support to the forensic medical examiner team when conducting rape and sexual assault examinations for adults and young people.   They will also corroborate the examination to ensure that evidence gathered is accepted by the Crown.  A key result area for this post is in supporting the implementation of Healthcare Improvement Scotland Standards for Healthcare and Forensic Services for adults, children and young people who have experienced rape and sexual assault and a specific commitment to improve services for survivors by sexual violence is essential.

We are looking for individuals with experience of person-centred care; an understanding of trauma and the impact of sexual violence; ability to work in partnership with doctors and other service providers, particularly Police Scotland, to provide the highest standard of care; ability to self-start; be responsible for own areas of work and continuing learning and development.  These are permanent, on call contracts, with a variety of shifts available.  It is anticipated (subject to national agreement) that the role will continue to develop going forward into that of Forensic Medical Examiner for rape and sexual assault.

The post holder will be based in Inverness but will be required on to support doctors across our other Forensic suites (some of which are still in development), therefore, ability to travel across Highland is essential.   Initially, the service will be provided out of hours, but it is anticipated that this be extended to a fully staffed rota available 24/7. The post holder must be available to complete NES Essentials in Sexual Offences Examination Course.
