The Role

The Strategic Lead for South Lanarkshire Alcohol & Drug Partnership is an exciting opportunity for someone  who has the skills and ability to meet this challenge. 
It is essential that you are able to maintain a range of highly relationships within and across a range of organisational systems critical to the successful implementation of the South Lanarkshire ADP Strategy. It is an opportunity to take a lead role in ensuring that these systems work together to deliver key objectives outlined within the ADP Strategy, National strategies for reducing drug related deaths and Local Improvement Plans. If you are an effective communicator and have the interpersonal skills to develop collaborative working relationships and are able to take cognizance of the variety of highly complex, contentious and sensitive situations that occur across a range of levels across the ADP partners, we would like to hear from you.

What we'll need you to bring

Possession of relevant management training/qualification relevant to working within the public sector and demonstrated expertise across a number of subject areas e.g. clinical practice, clinical governance, commissioning, finance, marketing.

Educated to/working towards operating at Masters Degree level in a relevant field and/or demonstration of suitable professional knowledge, development and training at an equivalent level.

Specialist knowledge of alcohol and drug issues, gained either through experience or post-graduate study e.g. Post-Graduate Diploma in Alcohol and Drug Studies.

Minimum of 5 years experience at a strategic level, including the formulation of policies and practice and managing change.

Relevant experience and knowledge of the commissioning process e.g. needs analysis, resource management, tendering and contracting for service provision and performance review.

In-depth understanding and knowledge of the complex issues of alcohol and drug misuse and the social determinants that affect health and social inequality.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective negotiation, influencing, involvement and encouragement.

Proven track record of partnership and collaborative working across public sector organisations.

Demonstrated track record in project management, service development and planning.  This should include managing resources (people, time and budgets), evaluation and research methodologies and co-ordinating activities through project management approaches.

Clear understanding and commitment to development of the ADP agenda as a vehicle to safeguarding and promoting the interests of children, young people and families affected by substance misuse, reducing the level of alcohol and drug related harm within South Lanarkshire and developing appropriate services and support for people with alcohol and drug related problems.

Sound analytical, information management and technology and financial management skills.

Self-motivated and enthusiastic with strong leadership qualities, demonstrating good vision for the direction of travel for the ADP Strategy.  In addition, they should be innovative, able to work under pressure and to remain diplomatic, sensitive and to respect/maintain confidentiality at all times.


It would be great if you also have


Practical knowledge and understanding of evaluation and research methodologies and coordinating activities through project management approaches

Good IT skills including Excel and Access
