Alness and Invergordon Medical Practice is located within East Ross in the Scottish Highlands; within easy commuting distance of the city of Inverness. The Practice, with an overall population of 13,500 patients, is based across 2 sites; Invergordon (modern premises shared with Minor Injuries, Community Hospital and Community Teams) and Alness (shared with NHS Dental Practice). Invergordon sits on the northern shores of the Cromarty Firth, an area that has recently been selected to host one of Scotland’s first green freeports. This is an exciting time for the local area with the winning bid helping to support growth and regeneration.

We are committed to a work life balance and have embraced longer 15 minute appointment times and the opportunity this affords for us to care for our patients. This extends further to recognising the merits of remote working, which can also be considered as part of the normal working week.

We are pleased to have started to rebuild the salaried GP team, with 2 new salaried GPs, and we have received good feedback from visiting clinicians. There is a fantastic wider multidisciplinary team including: Advanced Nurse Practitioners; Practice Nurses; Health Care Assistants; with the addition of Pharmacotherapy, First Contact Physiotherapy, Primary Care Mental Health and Community Link Workers. The clinical team is supported by the practice manager and admin team.

We are exploring opportunities to support undergraduate medical school teaching and placements; and to work with Highlife Highland to offer a more holistic approach to lifestyle and health. We aim to build on this positive environment with further recruitment to these substantive posts to ensure stability and continuity for the practice and local population.
