Job Advert
Due to the retirement of the current post holder we are looking for a well organised, self – motivated individual who enjoys working with children and young people to join our Speech and Language Therapy team as a support practitioner. In Fife our support practitioner roles involve a combination of direct clinical work and administrative duties which relate to the clinical commitments of our speech & language therapy service.
This specific post is part-time (35 hours) and provides support for two key clinical areas in our child and young people’s team. The first is direct work with pre-school and school age children with speech, language and communication needs in the Kirkcaldy area. You would work under the supervision of the Speech and Language Therapists in the team. The work involves contact with parents/carers and education staff in local schools/nurseries. The other clinical duties relate to our Fife-wide service and specific support for children with ‘exceptional healthcare needs’ and the small number of specialist speech and language therapists who work with this group of children.
The remainder of your responsibilities will consist of administration duties relating to the clinical commitments of the Kirkcaldy team, e.g. sending appointment letters and preparation of therapy resources.
You must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, time management and applied IT skills. Experience of working with children and people is essential. Experience of working in teams is also required as is knowledge of child development and basic therapeutic approaches. Ability to drive is essential as the post requires travel to clinic bases and/or schools across Fife.
You would be based with a supportive group of speech and language therapists in Whyteman’s Brae Hospital. This post would provide the opportunity to be involved a range of innovative activities to support children and young people in Fife alongside the speech & language therapists. We offer peer support with other individuals in SLT support practitioner posts from across Fife alongside managerial supervision and a personal development programme (PDP)
