NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen, within the Acute Frailty Assessment Unit (AFU), for an individual to join our team as a ward assistant. AFU is a new initiative that is part of the Medicine for the Elderly (MFE) directorate. It consists of six, rapid turnover beds for both male and female in- patients and is aligned to the Acute Medicine for the Elderly Assessment Unit (AME).

Duties will include answering phones and dealing with the public on a daily basis, along with updating relevant IT systems and general administration duties that will ensure smooth and effective flow from the Unit. As you will be working closely with the Senior Nursing and Medical team in both AFU and AME good communication is essential.  Prior knowledge of Computer systems used within NHS Scotland would be beneficial but not essential as training can be given.

You will be required to comply with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland throughout your employment.

Hours of work are:  37.5 hours per week, Monday –Friday and covering periods of annual leave in AME when required.
