The Aberdeen Centre for Reproductive Medicine (Aberdeen Fertility Centre) provides a broad range of fertility treatments and is internationally recognised for its research. The centre is licenced by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) and is certified to ISO 15189:2012 and ISO 9001:2015.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time quality management practitioner to join our outstanding team based in the Maternity Hospital at the Foresterhill campus. What makes this role even more exciting is the prospect of playing a key part in the relocation of our unit to its purpose-built new home in the Baird Family Hospital.

As Quality Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining our existing quality management system (QMS) so that it remains compliant to HFEA guidelines and ISO standards and is effective in driving forward continual improvement of all aspects of our service.

The role requires the Quality Manager to:

  • Apply an understanding of the requirements of HFEA guidelines and ISO standards to maintain and improve the QMS, as well as promoting our culture of ‘total quality management’
  • ‘Own’ our patient feedback process and use insights gained to improve our processes
  • Lead on internal audit, risk management and corrective preventive actions (CAPA) to drive forward continual improvement
  • Facilitate effective processes of document and records control
  • Ensure that the equipment and supplier database is kept up to date
  • Be a key player in how we roll out our communications strategy
  • Support the planning of the relocation of the unit to the Baird Family Hospital in 2024.

Essential to the role is a comprehensive working knowledge of the key principles of quality management and leveraging this to ensure the centre remains compliant. The successful candidate will need to evidence previous experience of implementing an effective and efficient quality management system in a service organisation; ideally in a clinical or laboratory setting.

The post holder will also need to demonstrate first class stakeholder management and communication skills and be a highly analytical thinker.

Although the post is advertised as 2 years fixed term, there may be scope to extend this.

Competence in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential and familiarity with QPulse and Datix is a big plus.

Please note, although it is not essential that you have fertility experience if applying for this role, we do expect applicants to demonstrate an understanding of quality management in a fertility setting. This will include evidence that you are familiar with the HFEA Code of Practice. On this basis, we welcome any informal enquires; in the first instance, please email the service Business Manger Neville Trower to arrange a follow up chat: neville.trower@nhs.scot.
