Job Advert

NHS Lothian

- NEW CLOSING DATE -

The interviews for this post will take place in early February to allow candidates who will obtain their CCT in August 24 to apply.

NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once CESR is awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term (2 years), full time (40 hours per week) post based in St John’s Hospital and Royal Edinburgh Hospital.

This is an innovative new post that combines consultant clinical work with dedicated academic sessions.  It is ideally suited for candidates who have combined academic and clinical training and are looking to take the next step in the career of a clinical academic.  The role is fully funded for 2 years, which will allow a successful candidate the time and support to be successful in obtaining an externally funded intermediate-level fellowship.  The job plan will compose of 50% clinical work and 50% academic/SPA sessions (ie 5 Clinical, 1 core SPA and 4 dedicated academic sessions).

This fantastic opportunity to build the portfolio required to achieve a fellowship means that the successful candidate will have shown a very strong track record in academic research and will have obtained either a PhD or an MD.  They will have published papers in leading journals and will be able to evidence their skills in designing and analysing the complex data sets that a leading clinical academic will need to use to progress our understanding of mental disorders in older people.
