Job Advert

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small team of specialist community health improvement practitioners in Highland who are working on health gain approaches to Type 2 diabetes and weight.

The post is temporary to provide maternity leave cover for a period of 8 months and is based in Invergordon but with an element of remote working. The post delivers 1:1 interventions to people with prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes; monitoring and evaluation. The work is targeted towards prevention and early intervention, using approaches which focus on life circumstances as well as lifestyle. Based in the community, you will work closely with a cluster of GP practices to recruit people to the service and then signpost people to ongoing local community support.

The post may be of interest to experienced dietitians, public health nurses, health improvement specialists or similar, who have a good understanding of diabetes, food and health, and the wider determinants of health. There are opportunities for training and development. You should have excellent communication skills including motivational interviewing or similar; much of the work is self-generated; there is a continued focus on engagement and training with colleagues in primary care.

You will be part of the wider north NHS Highland Nutrition and Dietetic service and the post allows for extensive peer support and opportunities to work with colleagues across Highland. We are keen to develop innovative and trauma informed approaches to health and wellbeing, especially regarding diabetes and weight; this takes a compassionate stance and recognises the impact of life circumstances on health outcomes.

You will continue to promote evidence-based practise in the team, work to agreed standards and support student placements.  We actively support CPD.
