NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse to join the Acute Surgical Receiving Unit (ASRU) in the post of trainee ANP. ASRU is a multi-speciality assess to admit unit which hosts the specialities of General Surgery, Vascular, Urology, GP orthopaedic referrals as well as the specialist surgical specialties which include plastics, neurosurgery, ENT and OMF surgery. The team is forward thinking and dynamic and is supported by a supportive management structure and multidisciplinary team.

ASRU can be a rapidly changing and high-pressure environment due to the number of daily admissions but has significant training and development opportunities in order to ensure that patients referred to ASRU receive timely, effective, safe, and patient centred care, in alignment with the ethos of ASRU.

As a (trainee) nurse practitioner you will be placed on a supported academic pathway to achieve a PG Diploma in Advanced Practice at masters level. The academic component will be supported by the multi-disciplinary team and senior colleagues to allow you to achieve the clinical competencies within the role. Successful applicants will gain a wide variety of experience and exposure to a number of clinical presentations due to the wide variety of surgical specialties.

The successful candidate will be expected to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will be a team player with a high level of emotional intelligence and resilience. You will be expected to have a degree and you should be able to provide evidence of continual professional development with extensive experience in more than one specialty at Band 5. Experience at Band 6 is desirable.

In return we can offer you the opportunity for personal and professional development whilst advancing your career to an advanced practice level. This will be in a supported learning environment where you will be encouraged to embrace the opportunities available.

You must be registered on Sub-part 1: RN1 or RNA or Sub-part 2: RN2 of the UK NMC Register and educated to degree level
