NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applications are open for this innovative 6-12 month rotation (based on candidate preference) within the orthopaedic departments at University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse. There are two positions available.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in welcoming, forward thinking departments at both hospitals. The intention of the rotating positions is to increase doctors’ exposure to both elective and trauma care before applications to the national Core surgical training.

These positions would also be suitable for candidates who wish to increase their experience of working in orthopaedics in the NHS.

Doctors within this role will be expected to provide ward cover to orthopaedic and trauma in-patients. If appointed you will provide out of hours on call commitments to the trauma department and the Hospital at Night (HAN) rota which covers ENT, general surgery and orthopaedics with the support of specialist registrars.

The successful applicants will be encouraged to use ISCP portfolio to document their surgical logbook and portfolios.

A dedicated teaching programme is provided within the department to ensure CF’s have continued professional development of their knowledge and surgical skills.

The appointment will be whole time for the duration of 12 months (commencing Feb 2024). 6 month rotations will also be considered based on candidate preference.  A 50% pay supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out of hours working and emergency duty commitments, and will be based on salary range of £38,553 - £43,597 . The posts are not recognised for training.   Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to make contact with Dr Claire Gilroy, University Hospital Crosshouse (Email: Claire.gilroy4@aapct.schot.nhs.uk)

Applications should be submitted via the jobtrain website no later than noon on Friday 24 November 2023.
