In line with the Scottish Government commitment to roll out the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) service across Scotland an exciting opportunity to commence programme delivery in Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership within NHS Highland will begin.

The FNP is a person-centred, preventative intervention programme offered to young first-time mothers.

We are recruiting two highly motivated and enthusiastic specialist nurses to work within the Family Nurse Partnership in Argyll and Bute.

The posts are fixed term for a 3 year period and will be based in the Cowal and Bute area. Secondment and dual role opportunities will be considered for the posts.

The posts are each 30 hours per week with 22.5 hrs per week worked within the role of FNP and remaining hours worked within own your role specific discipline.

The FNP Nurse will be registered with the NMC on sub part 1 or midwifery part of the register, be educated to degree level, and have either Masters level education or be able to demonstrate clinical practice and characteristics at Masters level.

However, consideration may be given to those who do not have a 1st degree.

Ideal candidates will evidence of recognised nursing leadership skills and a willingness to work both innovatively and flexibly (on occasions out with core hours). Candidates will have experience in working with and engaging children, young people and families in communities encountering a range of inequalities.

Applicants are required to demonstrate application of the principles of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach in clinical practice in addition to robust understanding of national and local policies relating to child protection and the wellbeing of children and young people.

Most importantly, applicants are required to have a commitment to the spirit and ethos of FNP and its strength-based approach.

The Family Nurse will work with a maximum of 25 pregnant teenagers and their babies (or WTE ratio), at any one time, up until the child is 2 years of age, working to the FNP model

The successful applicant requires to be available to attend all mandatory FNP Education over an 18-month period. Education is facilitated using a hybrid model of online and face to face education, some of which is residential.

The first module, Foundations in FNP Practice begins with learning, at the FNP site and online, followed by 5 days residential in March 2024.

In addition, there are a significant number of 1–2-day training events throughout 2023/ 2024, which the family nurse will be required to attend.

All new Family Nurses will have the option to undertake the Professional Diploma in Family Nursing, which on successful completion, will result in the award of 60 Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Level 11 points.
