Job Advert
Applications are invited for a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. Raigmore Hospital is the principal hospital of NHS Highland, which has a large catchment area of 12,500 square miles and a population of 320,000.
Due to its geographical location, Raigmore Hospital benefits from an enhanced range of in-house specialist cardiac services, including a 6-bedded coronary care unit, cardiology ward and a recently upgraded spacious interventional suite, containing two large catheterisation laboratories.
Coronary angiography and PCI are provided for direct admissions to Raigmore Hospital and transfers from several referring hospitals. All complex coronary interventions are performed on-site, supported by a full range of contemporary interventional devices. Training, teamwork and peer support are key aspects of working closely together in our interventional team.
The cardiology department routinely performs pacing/ICDs, cardiac resynchronisation therapy, nuclear perfusion scanning, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI and TOE. Interventional radiology is on-site, next to the cardiac lab. This post has no commitment to general medical receiving.
Research facilities are provided in the Centre for Health Science, adjacent to Raigmore Hospital. The department is currently recruiting for a large number of cardiology trials. Excellent academic links exist with the University of Aberdeen and the University of Highlands and Islands, with supervision of medical students, PhD and other postgraduate projects.
The City of Inverness is the Capital of the Scottish Highlands and residents enjoy a very high quality of life and working environment.
Informal enquiries are welcomed by Dr Jonny Watt, Consultant Cardiologist & Clinical Lead (jonathan.watt@nhs.scot) or Dr Jamie Smith, Consultant Cardiologist & PCI lead (jamie.smith2@nhs.scot), via email or 01463 705005 (secretary).
