Spotlight on the Older Peoples Mental Health Service in NHS Lothian

The Older Peoples Mental Health Service in Lothian has areas across Edinburgh, East, Mid and West Lothian.  Opportunities for registered nurses are available across the full patient pathway.  E.G. Community Nursing, Assessment Wards and Hospital Based Complex Clinical Care.

Older Peoples Mental Health is a rewarding career choice where you can utilise all of your nursing skills and develop many more.  There is a motivated and dedicated multi-disciplinary team who provide person centred, compassionate care working closely with carers and other agencies.

In REAS, we have 4 busy acute assessment wards; 2 for people living with dementia and 2 for older adults with functional mental illness.  

Our dementia assessment wards work closely with our psychology colleagues to implement the Newcastle model in order to understand distress and to formulate a person-centred care plan to address any unmet needs.

In our functional assessment wards we focus on building resilience for our patients with current QI projects around safety and discharge planning.
