The Role
The Dental Therapy & Hygiene Tutor will provide the Oral Health Sciences programme Glasgow with high quality and comprehensive teaching, learning and assessment in Dental Hygiene/Therapy, at the Dental Outreach Training Centre, in the Buchanan Centre in Coatbridge. You will educate and supervise students in the theoretical and practical skills required of Dental Hygienist/ Therapists, prepare them to sit and for success in both the course and final examinations as dictated by the General Dental Council in order that they qualify into these professions and be responsible for quality assuring the Dental Hygiene/ Therapist training which is carried out at The Buchanan Centre. This post is an existing one which will comprise one day per week to supplement existing tutor provision on four other days of the week. You will contribute to the education and training of undergraduate dental students and trainee dental nurses as required. Qualified dental staff based within the Dental Outreach Department in the Buchanan Centre will be available for treatment planning and to give advice and assistance when necessary.
The Oral Health Sciences programme, in conjunction with Glasgow Caledonian University, will be responsible for all academic aspects of the Hygiene/ Therapist training. The Clinical Director of Public Dental Service (PDS) in Lanarkshire has clinical responsibility for the care of all patients within the Dental Outreach training facility in the Buchanan Centre and for the management and administration of all dental staff employed within the facility. The Dental Hygienist /Therapist Tutor will be an employee of NHS Lanarkshire and will be professionally accountable to the Clinical Director of PDS.

What we'll need you to bring
- Diploma in Dental Hygiene/dental therapy or BSc in Oral Health Science.
- GDC registration with no conditions or restrictions.
- Demonstrable experience in the theoretical and practical aspects of all dental procedures carried out by the Dental Hygienist/ Therapist in General Dental Practice.
- Knowledge of Higher Education procedures and practices.
- Evidence of attendance at post-qualification CPD courses.
- Evidence of ability to produce work of high quality.
- Evidence of ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Experience of Microsoft Office.
- Good communication skills.
- Good motivational skills.
- Knowledge of current GDC guidelines and policies.
- Proven team player.
- Good time management and planning skills.
- Ability to reflect on actions and decisions.
- Completed annual training in CPR in accordance with GDC requirements.
- Awareness of Health & Safety, moving and handling requirements.
It would be great if you also have
- Registration with a relevant professional organisation, e.g. BADT, BDHA (after 17/11/06 British Association of Dental Hygienist and Therapists).
- Post-Graduate Qualification in Teaching or Education.
- Dental DCP training experience.
- IT and presentation skills.
- Broad knowledge of occupational and government-informed policies.

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.
