Consultant Haematologist

Basic Salary: - £96,963 - £128,841 per annum


PERMANENT FULL TIME AVAILABLE.  PART TIME APPLICATIONS WELCOME


The Role

Based at the Borders General Hospital, Melrose, Scottish Borders, you will provide Level 2a Clinical Haematology together with non-malignant haematological care and clinical input into Haematology laboratory services.  


You would be an active member of the South-East of Scotland Cancer Network (SCAN). Weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings are held by teleconference with colleagues in Edinburgh, West Lothian and Fife. There are agreed investigation and treatment protocols within SCAN. Participation in relevant NCRN and other trials is encouraged.


Within the laboratory, the Consultant Haematologist reports all marrow biopsy specimens and reports all significantly abnormal blood films which are referred by the BMS staff.  Emphasis is placed on close liaison with BMS staff, hospital colleagues and GPs over abnormal results. There are frequent calls for advice from all sectors of the local health service.


Candidates must hold MRCPath and must also be registered with the General Medical Council in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.
