STOMA CARE SPECIALTY NURSE – BAND 6, 37.5 hours

The Lead Nurse of the General Surgery Sub-Directorate within GG&C is seeking applications from a suitably experienced surgical nurse in the development of a Nurse Specialist within the Stoma Care service primarily  within Glasgow Royal Infirmary

Ideally candidates will be expected to be able to study to Degree level, and an existing qualification at Degree level would be advantageous. Evidence of post-registration qualification and experience within Stoma Care would be desirable, however training will be provided on the job.

The post-holder will be expected to utilise a broad range of knowledge, skills and theory in the provision of in-patient Stoma care service for surgical specialty patients. A fundamental part of the role will be patient support and education. You will also be required to provide ongoing Stoma care to patients within an out patient setting, this include pre-operative siting and counselling but also post-discharge follow up.

It is expected that the Stoma care nurse will assess patients, provide treatment and monitor the effectiveness of this, in liaison with medical and nursing staff.  The Stoma care nurse must also be able to competently perform the necessary technical, invasive, physical assessments and plan of care for this defined patient group.
