Locum Appointment for Training Specialty Registrar in Geriatric Medicine

 (LAT ST4+ level)

Ref No.: EG171328

Salary: £40,995 - £64,461 per annum

These full-time Specialty Registrar LAT (ST4 level or above) posts are available from 7 February 2024 for 6 months either in Aberdeen or Elgin. For Aberdeen it is primarily based within Geriatric Medicine based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but may include Rosewell House, Woodend Hospital and Community work. For Elgin, it is primarily based at Dr Gray’s Hospital.  There will be a requirement to work in shifts on rotation, including evening, weekend and overnight work.

The acute Geriatric service in Aberdeen includes a 25 bedded Geriatric Assessment Unit (Ward 102) and 40 sub- acute inpatient beds at Rosewell House Intermediate Care Unit. The service also covers Geriatric rehabilitation at Woodend Hospital (Links@Woodend) and Geriatric continuing care (Morningfield House). The acute Geriatric service in Elgin includes an Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit with 16 beds.

Applicants should have completed a foundation scheme or have similar experience. They should ideally hold the MRCP from one of the Royal Colleges in the UK or hold similar qualification and have experience in General Medicine, and ideally some experience in Geriatric Medicine although this is not essential. This post may appeal to trainees in Group 1 (and perhaps a small number of Group 2) Medical Specialties generally. It would allow for training in Geriatric Medicine which constitutes a considerable portion of the Acute Medical take. If trainees have a specific interest in a non-Geriatric medical specialty it may be possible to allow trainees a period of time in the specialty of their choice to allow them to optimise their Curriculum Vitae for application for ST4 posts in the future irrespective of Group 1 (or 2) specialty.

The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and / or programme has the required educational and Postgraduate Dean's approval.
