This is an exciting opportunity for a temporary, full-time (although variation in contracted hours may be considered) , Band 7 Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) to join our Adult Learning Disability Psychology Service.  The post holder will be part of the Multi-Disciplinary Adult Learning Disability Service, working as part of a committed team, comprising a range of healthcare professionals within the specialist service, alongside Social Work colleagues. 

What you will do:

The role will involve the provision of evidence-based psychological assessment and interventions for adults with learning disabilities referred with a range of mild to moderate psychological disorders and also those with behaviours that challenge.  You will be responsible for the provision of both individual clinical input and also group work to address the psychological well-being of adults with learning disabilities. Working with a range of provider agencies, staff teams and family carers, monitoring of clinical outcomes, as well as developing psychologically informed working practice with a range of multi-disciplinary team colleagues is a key feature of this role.

Joint-working with colleagues from Health, Local Authority and private provider agencies is integral within learning disability services and the post holder will be expected to liaise and consult with a wide range of multi-agency and 3rd sector colleagues as part of their role.  You will also contribute to service delivery priorities as identified by the Adult Learning Disability Psychology Service and participate in relevant service evaluations.


Knowledge, Training and/or experience required to do the job:

  • The postholder must have an honours degree in Psychology (eligible for GBR) and a post-graduate Masters level (or equivalent) degree in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People.
  • Relevant clinical experience
  • Have knowledge of relevant national and professional guidelines for optimal standards of clinical care. .
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to working with people with learning disabilities, such as Adult Support and Protection, Child Protection and Adults with Incapacity.

Given our pan-Ayrshire service across three Partnership areas, a car owner and driver is preferable although this is not essential.
