NHS Lothian
Department of Medical Physics
Clinical Scientist - Nuclear Medicine Physicist
AfC Band 7, 12 months fixed term maternity cover

We are seeking to recruit a motivated physicist looking to specialise in Nuclear Medicine Physics. This role provides support to senior physicists whilst building on the experience gained through prior basic training. This role is fixed-term for a period of 12 months.

You will work with a team of clinical scientists and clinical technologists within the Nuclear Medicine Physics section to provide scientific, technical, and clinical support to a range of clinical services using radioactive material including diagnostic imaging, therapies and non-imaging diagnostic services. These services are located pan Lothian, at NHS Fife and Borders as well as supporting the Clinical Imaging research facility within the University of Edinburgh. The Nuclear Medicine Physics section also provides a range of clinical services directly to patients including delivery of Molecular Radiotherapy (MRT) and DEXA.

This role involves, for example, routine equipment testing, problem solving issues arising from the equipment QC programme, participating in dose audits, investigating radiation incidents, performing risk assessments and involvement in optimisation projects.

At NHS Lothian we have a strong commitment to staff development, engagement and positive staff experience. This post offers an excellent opportunity to further your career within the beautiful, vibrant city of Edinburgh.

We strive to provide high quality, safe, effective and person-centred healthcare, continually improving clinical outcomes for patients who use our services and for our population as a whole, through the application of NHS Lothian’s core values of values of quality, teamwork, care & compassion, dignity & respect, and openness, honesty and responsibility.

You will hold as a minimum a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in a physical science. Full membership of IPEM and registration as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics) with the Health and Care Professions Council are essential.

You must be able to demonstrate initiative, written and verbal communication skills as well as tact, diplomacy, leadership, organisational and scientific skills. You must have the ability to work well as part of a team. The post requires travel across Lothian and Fife.
