Forensic Medical Secretary – Modern Apprenticeship

Post Details – This is an exciting post within the Clinical Administration department. Forensic medical secretaries provide a specialised medical secretarial service to consultants, specialty doctors and trainee doctors who provide direct patient care from assessment, admission, treatment and recovery, transitions, and discharge.

Experience – The current vacancy for the apprentice Medical Secretary is open to anyone aged between 18 and 24 years (or 18 to 29 years for candidates with a disability or who are care experienced*) in line with NHS State Hospital Recruitment Strategy and in support of our workforce demographics and projections.

*The term “care experienced” refers to anyone who has been, or is currently in care.  This includes kinship care where you are living/lived with a relative who is not your parent, or looked after with the help of social work, or living/lived in Residential care, Foster care, Secure care or Adoption.

In order to apply you must have a minimum of four National 5s at bands A-C (inc English), or equivalent SCQF level awards/qualifications, OR have previous work experience.

How long will the Modern Apprenticeship last?

This modern apprenticeship is a 2 year programme. If successful in your application, you will be employed initially on a fixed term 2 year Annex 21 trainee contract.

During the 2 year apprenticeship you will work towards achieving:

•           Level 7 Scottish Vocational Qualification in Healthcare Support (Non Clinical).

•           Minute Taking Unit

•           Medical Terminology Unit

•           International Certification of Digital Literacy (ICDL) Qualification.

During your training you are expected to attend regular reviews to discuss your progress and development needs, and are expected to stick to the agreed training plan. This includes attending internal and external training and taking responsibility, with support, to collect the evidence required that proves competence in the job role.
