The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Hospital Emergency Care Team (HECT) team in University Hospital Hairmyres for an Advanced Practitioner to join our dynamic team.
We are looking for an expert clinical practitioner with substantial experience in an acute/ critical care setting. You will act as first responder to the deteriorating patient and be capable of working to the level of a junior doctor identifying those who are acutely unwell and facilitating early interventions and treatment
autonomously primarily, but not exclusively in the out of ours period.
Additional Information Specific to the Role
• Carry out advanced and comprehensive physical examination for hospital in-patients, identifying those who are acutely ill and facilitate early intervention.
• Carry out Non-Medical Prescribing in accordance with professional and NMP guidelines.
• Initiate and support decisions to commence, administer and evaluate treatment pathways including Hi Flo Nasal O2, CPAP and NIV.
• Request radiological investigations for patients and rationalise reason for requests.
• Conduct advanced analysis and interpretation of physiological data including laboratory results, ECG interpretation and radiological investigations.
• Provide Advanced Life Support at medical emergencies and cardiorespiratory arrests
• Continuously evaluate advanced interventions and complex treatment modalities for the acutely unwell patient within the hospital environment
As this is an Advanced Practitioner post, a recognised qualification in advanced practice at Masters level is essential and this must include a recognised qualification in clinical assessment and non- medical prescribing. For those who don't meet the specified criteria, this post will also be considered as a training position under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms & conditions.

This position is offered at Band 7 Annex 21. The salary scale for the post is £46,244 per annum rising in annual increments to £53,789 per annum pro-rata. As a trainee your pay is determined as a percentage of pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms and conditions. As you are more than 2 years from completion of training you will receive 70% of the Band 7, maximum for qualified staff which equates to £37,652 per annum in year 1 and in year two 75% which equates to £40,342. On completion of your training you will be placed on either the first pay point of the appropriate pay band or the next pay point above your training salary. What we'll need you to bring
- Registered Nurse / AHP / Pharmacist with valid NMC/HCPC / GPHC Registration.
- Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced clinical practice and expertise within speciality /
- Area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality.
- Advanced Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality.
- Evidence of application of advanced practice skills in speciality and applying clinical judgement.
- Evidence of further developed knowledge and experience in management and/or leadership.
- Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification.
- The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate and influence others and work using own initiative.
- Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills and effective time management skills.
- Working knowledge of basic information technology.
It would be great if you also have
- Educated to/working a working towards a PGDip in Advanced Clinical practiceNon-Medical Prescriber
- ALS provider
- Experience in teaching/training
- Evidence of experience in management and or leadership role
- Evidence of participation in quality improvement / research/ audit projects
- Advanced clinical assessment skills.
- Evidence of application of advanced clinical skills (NIV/ ECG interpretation/ABG’s etc.)
- Demonstrate evidence of working autonomously

Location and Working Pattern
- This role will be based within University Hospital Hairmyres
- The working pattern for this role consist of rotational 12- hour dayshifts and nightshifts. Weekend and Public Holiday working is also required for this post.
