The Post:

We have exciting opportunities for Organisational Leads for the health improvement function in Place & Wellbeing Directorate.  The primary function of the role is to lead the development, delivery and on-going improvement of multifaceted programmes of work focused on the determinants of health which contribute to preventing and reducing health inequalities and improve population health and wellbeing.

Responsibilities include line management of Health Improvement Managers within the programme and involves working across teams in Public Health Scotland and engagement with national and local government and other key stakeholders in designing and delivering programmes of work.

These are generic posts, and the remit may change, depending on organisational priorities and an understanding of Health Improvement programmes of work within Place and Wellbeing would be beneficial.  The current service areas are listed below with vacant positions indicated as *:

The Candidate:

You will have an appropriate, relevant masters qualification or equivalent relevant experience with a good knowledge, understanding and experience in the principles and practice of health improvement.

You should have excellent organisational skills and be able to develop, manage and deliver complex programmes of work within agreed timeframes, managing competing priorities and demands.  Your primary role will be to lead a programme area to make a significant and demonstrable contribution to an improvement in the underlying social, economic, and environmental determinants of health. You will use your leadership skills and knowledge of the policy, operational, strategic and data/intelligence context to engage and collaborate with a wide range of partners to help influence policy and practice. 

Location and Working Pattern:

PHS are currently hybrid working; being a blend of home and office based. The location for this post can be Central Quay, Glasgow or Gyle Square, Edinburgh. 

Please note that PHS is currently in the process of relocating from Central Quay, Glasgow to Bothwell Street, Glasgow from early 2024.

A hybrid model of working is currently in place.

The work pattern for this role is Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Part time hours may be considered. 

During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
