Job Advert

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We are delighted to be advertising for a fixed term, full time  senior leadership position with Prison Healthcare. The Healthcare Team in HMP Inverness is a small multi-disciplinary service, with various visiting professionals.  There is a nursing team  within HMP consisting of mental health / drug and alcohol, general nursing and HCSW.   A high number of individuals test positive for opiates on admission and require interventions such as OST and / or psychological interventions for previous trauma.  This is an expanding service, with a new prison being built.  Increased visible leadership and support is required whilst workforce reviews are completed  which in turn will determine the skill mix required for the new prison due to open in 2026.  Consequently the post is fixed term until 30/06/25 whilst the required longer term establishment and skill mix is confirmed.

The Healthcare Manager will work closely and be under the direction of the Head of Service, taking responsibility for  service development and monitoring in HMP Inverness.

The post holder will provide leadership and expert advice within the Prison Healthcare locally and Nationally, attend and represent HMP Inverness at Strategic meetings. They will collaborate with Prison and Community Services  to ensure the provision of high quality  and continuing Health care on liberation.

The post-holder will be an expert in the field, therefore, we would welcome interest from those with considerable experience in leadership/ management in relation to healthcare delivery.  Experience within prison environment, custody,  drug and alcohol / mental health services would be beneficial to the role requirements.
