Health Protection Nurse

(Advanced)  – Public Health


A rare and exciting 2-year fixed term or secondment opportunity has arisen in the Health Protection Team (HPT) for a Health Protection Nurse Advanced (HPNA).

This role would suit an experienced nurse with an interest in Infection Prevention and Control/Infectious diseases/Travel medicine/community health, who is looking to develop their existing skills into this varied specialist area.

The HPT is a small supportive team within the public health directorate, made up of Consultants in Public Health (Medicine), Health Protection Nurses and Health Protection Officers.

The team work with other NHSG colleagues, Health and Social Care colleagues and partners outside of NHS Grampian to manage community outbreaks of communicable disease and cases of notifiable illness across NHS Grampian. In addition to dealing with cases and outbreaks, the team do a great deal of proactive work with various partners to prevent exposure to harmful pathogens.

 As part of the HPT the post holder will:

  • Provide a professional, co-ordinated response to communicable disease, infection prevention and control and non-infectious hazards to health
  • Provide a proactive, specialist nurse, advisory, prevention and education service for communicable disease and community infection prevention and control to cases and other professionals
  • Be supported to become competent in the role by way of one to one support, mentorship and attending available CPD and training
  • Work towards becoming part of the first on call rota which covers weekends and weekday evenings.

This post is based in Summerfield House, NHS Grampian with some options for hybrid working once competent and confident to do so.

Hours are core hours Monday-Friday.
