Location: Medical Education Directorate at NHS Lothian
Role: Simulation Technician
Position: Band 4
Salary Scale: £27, 598 to £30,019
Contract: FTE: 37.5 hours per week

About the role
Candidates are invited to apply for one of two available innovative posts of Simulation Technician in NHS Lothian’s Medical Education Directorate (MED).

The MED’s main focus is to ensure delivery of high-quality medical education and training from undergraduate through to postgraduate doctors in Lothian.

The Simulation Team, of which this position is part, works to support the delivery of face-to-face clinical skills training and rehearsal education for doctors. This includes the regular use of manikins, trainers, and even actors to replicate real events with realistic feeling simulated ones. This highly rewarding and unique role would suit individuals with or without a clinical background who desire to make a real impact on helping clinicians and teams safely learn and perform even better.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have experience working in a technical and/or creative environment and be IT literate and familiar with Microsoft Office systems. They should be an organised person who possesses a strong attention to detail, they should be a clear communicator with a friendly demeanour and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, especially when working under pressure.

There is a requirement at times for the candidate to ‘act’ in simulated roles as patients or staff members in educational situations so a willingness to participate in this way is a strongly desired.

In-house and external training will be provided for the right candidate to support the fleet of manikins and training equipment, including AV equipment and software and to prepare for acting roles.

Although based in one of the five main NHS Lothian hospitals the post holder will be required to work across all NHS Lothian sites. Therefore, a flexible approach to travel and working hours is essential in this post.
