Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a part-time post of 28.5 hours per weeks with a shift pattern of 3 days + 6 hours (preferred days Mon, Thurs, Fri (other hours negotiable).

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

We are seeking an expert practitioner in echocardiography to join our cardiac physiology team in NHSGGC South Sector; based primarily at the New Victoria Hospital (NVH). The role includes contributing to the clinical leadership of the echo service, and development and supervision of the echo team as well as contributing to the operational management of the NVH cardiac physiology service as a whole. It is a growing echo service, with plans to concentrate all complex outpatient echo activity at the site, including transfer of the existing ACHD service and implementation of physiologist-led stress echo and 3D echo. NHSGGC serves the largest catchment population in Scotland, with South Sector hospitals serving more than half of this with a cardiac physiology workforce of 58 WTE. Although an ambulatory care hospital, the cardiac physiology department at NVH provides complex as well as routine diagnostic procedures to a substantial population. In addition, NVH participates in several GGC-wide Physiologist-led GP direct access services (including the investigation of murmurs, palpitations and heart failure). The department is modern, spacious and well-equipped and the hospital has good transport links. The echocardiography service at NVH currently provides TTE, TOE, stress and contrast studies and a dedicated service to oncology. The postholder would also have the opportunity to participate in specialised clinics at other sites according to their interests and expertise, including inherited cardiac conditions clinics and obstetric cardiology clinics, both at QEUH, and oncology clinics at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre). South Sector Imaging Consultants are research-active and the postholder would be expected to utilise this resource to develop Physiologist-led projects. NVH has a large device follow up service including approx. 200 CRT and ICD patients. Pacemaker implantation is performed at QEUH with complex device implantation presently undertaken by the Golden Jubilee National Hospital; with plans to develop this service at QEUH. NVH performs the usual repertoire of routine non-invasive testing, including provision of a RACPC. There are 4 Consultant Cardiologists based at NVH whose clinical interests include imaging, heart failure and CRM. NHSGGC has a very active Managed Clinical Network for Heart Disease which provides a platform for South Sector Physiologists to lead or participate in wider service developments. There is also good clinician engagement in the development of extended scope roles for Physiologists. We support a broad range of both clinical and non-clinical educational activities and there is good access to funding opportunities. We also value the transferable skills acquired through other professional activities and would be especially keen to attract a progressive, outward looking individual who is actively engaged with the wider healthcare science or cardiology community. Previous research experience is also valued.
You must hold professional registration and accreditation to be shortlisted; further requirements are detailed in the person specification. Informal discussions / visits are welcomed; please contact Annette Hall, Cardiac Physiology Team Lead New Victoria Hospital
