THE UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, MEDICAL SCIENCES & NUTRITION

INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION IN HEALTHCARE & MEDICAL SCIENCES

SENIOR CLINICAL LECTURER

(GENERAL PRACTICE & COMMUNITY MEDICAL EDUCATION)

REF: MED197A

This post represents an exciting opportunity to join a team of academic GPs in the highly rated School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition based at the Foresterhill Campus.

Applications are invited from General Practitioners registered with the General Medical Council. This post is based in the Institute of Education in Healthcare and Medical Sciences, part of the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. The post holder will therefore be part of a team with an international reputation in medical education. Based on one of the biggest healthcare campuses in Europe, our students benefit from a systems-based integrated approach. The role offers excellent opportunities for development of medical education skills with outstanding facilities and a supportive culture provided by the School and within the wider university setting. The Institute is proud of its position ranking Aberdeen as second in the UK to study Medicine in the Guardian League Tables of UK Medical Schools in 2023, reflecting it student-centred approach.

You will work with the General Practice and Community Medical Education (GPCME) team as a Clinical Senior Lecturer, as the Year 3 Deputy Lead. The post holder’s main responsibilities will encompass assessment, recruitment and line management of team members, pastoral care of students, teaching, evaluation of teaching and curriculum development for Year 3 of the MBChB course.

There has been a significant increase in the amount of General Practice teaching in the Curriculum, and we continue to develop novel ways of delivering that. The post holder will be expected to contribute to this. The number of students entering Year 3 will increase significantly from September 2024, and the post holder will be expected to help manage the associated upcoming changes.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Year 3 GP Lead, teaching practices and tutors, maintaining strong working relationships. The post holder will work closely with all stakeholders of the MBChB programme and take an active role in the annual Aberdeen GP Teaching Conference.

The post requires occasional flexible working - the successful candidate would be available for 2 sessions each week. The Year 3 GP teaching takes place on a Wednesday, which would be the most suitable day for the post holder to work.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Clinical salary scale for GPs (£103,242 per annum, pro rata).

Informal enquiries should be made to Dr Naomi Dow, Year 3 Lead GPCME (naomi.dow@abdn.ac.uk) or Dr John McKeown, Head of Teaching GPCME (teamgp@abdn.ac.uk).

This post does not meet the minimum requirements for visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route. We are therefore unable to consider applicants for this post that require sponsorship to work in the UK. To apply online for this position visit www.abdn.ac.uk/jobs
