An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic staff nurse, to join the Highland Forensic Service (HFS), based at New Craigs Hospital, Inverness.The post holder will provide specialist nursing care and treatment for individuals who have a mental disorder, and present a risk of serious harm, or a significant risk to the safety of others.
The post holder will join a friendly, close working and integrated team consisting of Medical, Nursing, Psychology, Mental Health Officers, Social Workers, and administrative staff. It is also an opportunity to live and work in the Highlands of Scotland known for its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and fantastic outdoors lifestyle.
The post holder must be a registered Mental health and/or Learning disability nurse, be educated to degree level or possess equivalent relevant experience with evidence of continuous professional development and have previous experience in mental health and/or learning disability nursing. Forensic mental health experience is desirable but not essential.
Key elements of this role include provision of psychiatric assessment along with MDT members, risk assessment and management, assertive follow up, crisis intervention and relapse prevention, engagement, supervision, delivery of low intensity psychological interventions (LIPI), liaison with local services, relevant agencies and families, key worker role for care programme approach (CPA), ensuring legal requirements of any relevant legislation are made, provision of education and training in forensic mental health to own/other professions, participating in risk assessment and addressing offending behaviour. It is essential that you have good interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, organisation and time management skills.
A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle for work purposes is preferred for this role as you will be required to travel to undertake the role.
