Regional Eating Disorders Unit
We are delighted to invite applications for this opportunity to work within the Regional Eating Disorder Unit (REDU) based at St John’s Hospital, Livingston. The service comprises of a committed multidisciplinary team and we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Psychologist to support the further development of Psychological services within the unit.
You will have responsibility for providing psychological interventions to the inpatient population on the ward who present with complex mental health disorders. This is a highly specialised clinical field and you will be supported to provide both individual and group psychological interventions as well supervision to a range of staff members within the multidisciplinary team. Clinical work will involve both direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative and advisory) intervention and you will be expected to exercise a degree of autonomous judgement in your professional practice.
Eligibility to supervise trainees/newly qualified practitioners is desirable but not essential. As the service develops, there will be ongoing opportunities for teaching and training within and beyond the unit, as well as involvement in research in this clinical field. Management are committed to investing in relevant training and career development opportunities and cpd will be supported as part of the wider professional development plan for Psychology within Lothian.
The Regional Eating Disorder Service consists of a 12 bedded inpatient ward providing intensive treatment for patients with severe eating disorders. These will be predominately patients with severe anorexia nervosa who are dangerously underweight and/or have not responded to less intensive forms of treatment. All patients will receive a multi-disciplinary assessment on admission and there will be close liaison with general medical services.
The Unit accepts admissions from NHS Lothian, Forth Valley, Fife, and Borders Regions and you will have close working relationships with local teams to support effective liaison and clinical planning.
The Service is hosted by Royal Edinburgh Associated Services (REAS), and direct line management sits under the Clinical Services Manager in Royal Edinburgh Associated Services (REAS). Professional management remains linked to NHS Lothian Psychological Therapies Services led by the Director of Psychology with a team of senior staff who are committed to supporting and developing staff alongside quality improvement and other programmes that enhance the quality of care provided.
