The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK and is home to major specialist services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery, with state-of-the-art Critical Care, Theatre and Diagnostic Services. The Royal Hospital for Children is adjoined to the adult hospital and has 244 paediatric beds with a further 12 neonatal beds in the maternity unit. This hospital provides a large number of specialist services to the West of Scotland and the wider population of Scotland in addition to a full range of secondary care services including cardiology and cardiac surgery, renal and bone marrow transplantation. For a number of these services, the children’s hospital is recognised as the sole provider in Scotland.

We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive registered Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly and supportive team in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services within each specialty ensuring the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients.

You will have a key role in providing an effective Making the Most of Your Medicines service at ward level for both Adults and Children where you will be an integral member of the pharmacy team and liaise closely with the wider multidisciplinary team. We have a number of near patient dispensing areas in the Adult and Children’s hospitals that you will get the opportunity to work from on a rotational basis.

You will also work in our main pharmacy department where we manage the supply of medicines to all wards and departments in addition to serving a large out-patient population who have a variety of short and long term health conditions which we also supply medicines for.

You must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written and be able to organize and prioritise workload and be a good team player.

You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and whilst experience of working in hospital pharmacy is desirable it is not essential as full training will be provided.

You should be prepared to work 5/7 days and participate in weekend working, extended hours service and public holiday service. Shift patterns for our extended hours service can be 9am – 5pm, 10am – 6pm or 11am – 7pm and you will work one of these shift patterns for one month at a time.
