The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Ward Clerk to join our team at University Hospital Hairmyres. The provision of efficient and effective administrative/clerical support to a receiving unit to ensure the smooth running of the department and to release Clinical staff to perform Clinical duties.

  • Provide a high quality administrative service for the medical and nursing staff to ensure efficiency in patient care. Exchange information with patients and staff on the admission, transfer and discharge of patients
  • Maintaining patient files ensuring information is accurate
  • Ensure administrative board round actions are complete
  • Ensure electronic patient management system and ward whiteboards are updated and accurate
  • Deal with telephone and face to face enquiries from all staff groups, patients, relatives, carers, providing information, directing and prioritising queries as appropriate to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery
  • Communicate with the discharge hub regarding referrals and updates
  • Arrange review appointments
  • Arrange patient transport in conjunction with nursing team
  • Assist with referrals for equipment and social work, in conjunction with the nursing team
  • Collecting prescriptions from pharmacy
  • Point of contact for family; non clinical updates
  • Manage ward mail, prioritising and redirecting appropriately
  • Admin adhoc duties as required
  • Cover other wards during periods of annual, sick leave and staff breaks

  • Proficient IT Skills which include a working knowledge of Microsoft office packages.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to prioritise and work on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Post holder should possess or be prepared to works towards ECDL.
  • Appropriate level of training in Management of Aggression

This role will be based in Surgical & Critical Care within University Hospital Hairmyres

The working pattern for this role Monday to Friday 8am-1pm
