The shift pattern is Monday to Friday 8.00-4.00/9.00-5.00 (30 hours).

This post is for a Band 3 Health Care Support Worker. It is a rotational post involving working throughout all maternity departments within the Vale of Leven Maternity Unit. The post holder are to support the Senior Charge Midwife and midwives in all maternity departments within the Vale of Leven, in the delivery of safe and effective standards of care. These are within day-care, early pregnancy, consultant antenatal clinics, midwives clinics, and care within the birthing unit. They are to have the knowledge required to undertake this role by through undertaking relevant in house training relating to processes and procedures, to be competent in Trakcare, such as for admitting and discharging women from care, and all HEI procedures/policies.

The post holder will be involved in competently performing the necessary aspects of care for women, such as being involved in supporting the midwives in delivering safe care  and undertaking tasks such as being proficient in performing venipuncture, taking observations, to be competent at documentation and in the use of IT systems. They will follow all of NHSGGC policies and provide a safe and person/family centred environment. The post holder is expected to have excellent communication skills as they will be face to face with women and their families, alongside working with other departments involved in the provision of care across different maternity sites within NHSGGC.

Qualifications and experience: 

  • SVQ 3 qualification or equivalent knowledge gained in a relevant area through experience, on the job training and short courses.

Knowledge required: 

  • Understands and complies with HCSW mandatory induction standards and code of conduct.
  • Completion and maintenance of statutory & mandatory learning activities.
  • Awareness, understanding and compliance of policies and practices e.g. Escort Policy, Prevention and control of infection and Health and Safety. This post holder is therefore able to work within the scope of their practice under direct and indirect supervision by the registered nurse (training will be provided)
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of equipment used within the department to support the registered nurse and ensure that they are compatible and in good working order.  Will escalate any concerns to a registered nurse.
