Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist

Full time, Permanent Post in Major Trauma

We have an exciting opportunity for a static Band 6 Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our Major Trauma team. The successful candidate will be working in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, which receives major trauma patients from across the South-East of Scotland. They will be supported by a highly skilled team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. This is a great opportunity to join the team at a pivotal moment of shaping the OT role within the service. We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible OT to join our team.

Our team delivers early intervention rehabilitation to patients following Major Trauma. This includes assessment and treatment interventions for patients who have complex injuries throughout their rehabilitation journey. This may include patients with traumatic brain injuries, chest wall injuries and poly orthopaedic injuries.

Opportunities:

  • Opportunity to work in critical care, an acute major trauma ward and also provide early supported discharge to support patients with the transition from the acute setting to the community
  • Develop advanced clinical skills and knowledge in the area of adult trauma including early intervention rehabilitation
  • Work collaboratively with physiotherapy colleagues and the wider MDT to deliver an OT service in line with best practice guidelines
  • Develop teaching and leadership skills

The successful candidate will work along-side the Advanced Practitioner OT, a band 6 OT and they will report to the Team Lead OT. They will be expected to support the Advanced Practitioner OT and Team Lead with service development and evaluation; and will also be responsible for clinical supervision of General Rehab Assistant Practitioners.

Applicants should be:

  • Autonomous practitioners with excellent communication, time management and prioritisation skills
  • They will have a high standard of Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention skills and clinical experience working within an acute or rehabilitation setting.

Candidates who are currently in a Band 5 post and wish to develop their career are encouraged to apply along with those already in a Band 6 post.  There will be a commitment to weekend working in the occupational therapy team at RIE as part of the 5 over 7 day working pattern.

There are strong network links to the hospital via bus services and we have a free NHS shuttle bus to an easily accessible free Park and Ride car park.
