Senior Engineer

The Post: 

NHSScotland Assure works to improve the management of risk in infrastructure, new builds and refurbishment projects across NHSScotland. NHSScotland Assure is a multi-disciplinary team with subject matter experts including those in the fields of ventilation, water, electrical, medical gases and infection prevention and control. Through the Key Stage Assurance Review process, it has the oversight for the design, construction, commissioning and maintenance of major infrastructure, new build and refurbishment developments across NHSScotland. 

The Candidate:

We are bringing together subject matter experts to work to reduce risk in the healthcare built environment across NHSScotland. We are looking for Senior Engineers to join our team to support this operation.

The post holder will provide expert advice, guidance and support in line with the national engineering agenda to NHSScotland on all aspects of their specialism, and actively contribute to the generation and review of national standards & guidance via regular contact with policy-makers. The role also involves carrying out Authorising Engineer audits of stakeholder's facilities, systems and documentations to current standards and guidance.

This role will be positioned within NHS National Services Scotland (NSS)  who play a key national role in the development and publication of national operational policy, standards, strategy and technical guidance for NHSScotland in relation to non-clinical professional healthcare subjects including Facilities Management, Architecture, Building, Science and Engineering, Planning, Environment, Estates, Construction Procurement and allied technical topics including the promotion of new initiatives in the field of healthcare property and facilities management.

We require Senior Engineers to provide technical and managerial advice on a range of Healthcare Engineering projects and services to NHSScotland bodies and others as required and represent NHSScotland in dealings with other organisations. 

You will contribute to the development and dissemination of engineering guidance, including Scottish Health Technical Memoranda, to NHSScotland through forums, workshops and seminars. You will have a high level of understanding of one or more engineering systems and legislation.  You will fulfil the role of Authorising Engineer, as described in the Scottish Health Technical Memoranda, for your area(s) of specialism. You must either be a Chartered Engineer or be able to suitably demonstrate that you are working towards Chartership at the time of applying.

You will also have excellent interpersonal skills, oral & written communication skills and well-developed organisational abilities.

Location and Working Pattern:

Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Delta House, Glasgow - hybrid working with a flexible fixed staff base.

Work pattern - Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
