Join our dynamic team as a Trainee Surgical First Assistant (SFA)!

Embark on a transformative career path with NHSSA 34-week trainee SFA programme.  

If you have a minimum of 18 months perioperative experience, seize the opportunity to excel in a crucial role of SFA in General, Gynaecology and RAS surgery with possibility to expand your knowledge in other specialities including Orthopaedics and Emergency.

The accelerated programme is credit rated at 40 level 10 credits by Glasgow Caledonian University and endorsed by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow with 40 CPD points available for completion of the programme. In addition to the fully licensed use of the SFA toolkit from the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) and the addition of SFA extended skills competencies as standard, the programme also includes use of the bespoke NHSSA online portfolio and digital learning resource. The online portfolio supports the required competency completion and, also the professional obligation for learners to maintain a professional portfolio relating to SFA practice. 

Face-to-face workshops delivered by experienced medical and surgical educators provide opportunity for learners to develop new skills in an educationally supportive environment. Workshops cover basic surgical skills, extended surgical skills, non-technical skills and human factors, ethics and law associated with the SFA role, and professional practice requirements. The final programme workshop consists of an assessed surgical case-based discussion and poster presentation that enables learner to demonstrate depth of knowledge and application.
