Duties & responsibilities: | Accountable to the Site Director for the Western General Hospital for the operational management of Cancer Services and its resources and is a key member of the WGH Site Leadership team. The post holder will support the Site Director in contributing to the leadership of the WGH campus as well as forming part of the NHS Lothian acute senior management on-call cohort. As a lead member of the of the Cancer Clinical Management team, contribute to the corporate management of the Directorate; the achievement of national priorities, innovation, and delivery of key service improvements to ensure safe and effective patient care across Cancer services within NHS Lothian. To deliver high quality cancer services, the General Manager will work closely with other Health Boards within the South East Scotland region – notably NHS Borders, NHS Fife and NHS Dumfries & Galloway along with the SCAN network. National collaboration at a senior level with other Health Boards, National Services Scotland and Scottish Government will also be a requirement of the role. The post holder will oversee the Cancer Performance Team who supports the performance management of NHS Lothian’s overall 31/62-day cancer performance management framework. In addition the General Manager will have to work closely with other organisations, including HSCPs, the third sector and academic institutions, to ensure effective planning and delivery of Cancer Services. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate they always demonstrate NHS Lothian values. The post holder will manage a budget of £78m and 669 wte staff covering the following areas of service:

Key requirements: | Educated to masters level (or be studying for the qualification), the successful applicant will have at least 5 years experience at a senior NHS Management level. Experience of working within or managing cancer services will be a significant advantage but not essential. Experience of managing multi-site clinical services in a busy environment will be required. Experience of developing large and complex service and capital business cases will be required. The successful applicant will be passionate about service improvement and have a strong practical understanding about the application of quality improvement approaches supported by a coaching mentality to develop staff. Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills will be essential to provide the direction and culture necessary to take cancer services forward over this exciting period of change and development. An understanding of the range of stakeholders involved in cancer service provision (public, patient, other NHS Boards, 3rd sector, Regional Cancer networks, Scottish Government, University etc) will be necessary for the post holder to function effectively. | |
